Repairs

How long does a phone screen repair take?

Most iPhone and Samsung screen replacements are done in 30–60 minutes while you wait. Complex jobs (board-level soldering, water damage) take 1–3 business days. We'll give you a time estimate when you drop in or book online.

Do you fix water-damaged phones?

Yes. We do ultrasonic cleaning and board-level micro-soldering for water damage. Success rates depend on how quickly you get the device to us and whether it was powered on while wet. Bring it in as soon as possible — every hour matters.

Can you fix MacBooks and laptops?

Absolutely — we repair MacBooks, Windows laptops, and Chromebooks. Common jobs include screen replacement, battery replacement, keyboard repairs, and charging port fixes. We also do board-level repairs for liquid damage and dead motherboards.

Do you repair gaming consoles?

Yes. PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch are all in scope. HDMI port replacements, disc drive repairs, thermal paste jobs, and controller stick drift fixes are the most common.

What is micro-soldering?

Micro-soldering is board-level repair — we work directly on the circuit board under a microscope to repair or replace individual components. It's used for charging IC failures, Face ID issues, dead display circuits, and other failures that can't be fixed by swapping a module.

Pricing

How much does a repair cost?

Prices depend on the device and fault. Phone screen replacements start from $89. Laptop screen replacements start from $149. For an accurate quote, drop the device in or use our online booking — diagnostics are free.

Is the diagnostic free?

Yes, diagnostics are always free. We assess the device, tell you what's wrong, and give you a fixed-price quote before any work begins. No surprises.

Do I pay if the repair isn't successful?

No. If we can't fix it, you don't pay for parts or labour. You only pay if the repair is successful and you're happy with the outcome.

Do you offer same-day repairs?

Most common repairs (screen, battery, charging port) are same-day. For jobs that require ordering parts, we'll let you know the expected turnaround — usually 2–5 business days.

Warranty

What warranty do repairs come with?

All repairs include a 6-month warranty on parts and labour. If the same fault returns within 6 months, we fix it at no charge. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and workmanship — it doesn't cover accidental damage after the repair.

Will repairing my phone void the manufacturer warranty?

Third-party repairs can affect the manufacturer's warranty, but Australian Consumer Law provides protections that exist separately from the manufacturer warranty. We use quality parts and our own 6-month warranty covers our work regardless.

Do you use genuine parts?

We use a mix of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and high-quality aftermarket parts, and we'll tell you which before we start. OEM parts cost more and we'll quote accordingly. For some devices, genuine Apple/Samsung parts are available — just ask.

Trade-In & Buy-Sell

Can I trade in or sell my old device?

Yes. We buy phones, tablets, laptops, and consoles in any condition — working or not. Bring the device in for a free assessment and we'll make an offer on the spot. No appointment needed.

What condition does my device need to be in?

Any condition. Cracked screens, faulty charging, water damage — we'll still assess it. Devices in better condition attract higher offers, but we'll take a look at anything.

How do you determine the trade-in price?

We check the model, condition, storage capacity, and current market resale value. The offer is made on the spot after a quick inspection — usually 5–10 minutes.

Can I buy refurbished devices from you?

Yes — we sell tested and graded refurbished phones, tablets, and laptops in our shop. All come with a 3-month warranty. Check our online shop or pop in.

What can I recycle at STS?

Is e-waste recycling free?

Cable and small device recycling is free. For large items (TVs, monitors, large appliances), there may be a processing fee — ask us when you drop in.

Do you issue e-waste certificates?

Yes. For businesses requiring documentation (insurance, compliance, asset disposal), we issue AS/NZS 5377 destruction certificates. This service is used by schools, councils, and businesses across Melbourne.
