We check the IMEI against the GSMA blacklist that Australian carriers report lost and stolen phones to, and show the result straight away.
When an Australian phone is reported lost or stolen, the carrier blocks its IMEI across Australian mobile networks through the industry program run by AMTA. A blocked phone cannot make calls or use mobile data on any SIM. You cannot unblock it yourself — only the person who reported it, through their carrier.
Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and private sales make it easy to buy a phone for cash from a stranger. A quick IMEI check before you hand over money is the simplest way to avoid paying for a phone that is blocked, or becomes blocked a few days later.
If a phone turns out to be stolen, police can seize it and return it to the owner. You lose the phone and usually the money. Checking first gives you a record that you acted in good faith.

Yes. Australian carriers block lost and stolen phones through AMTA's program and share those reports through the GSMA device registry, which is what we check. It works for phones from any brand — iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel, Oppo, Motorola and more.
The IMEI is not on the blacklist at the time of the check. It does not tell you whether the phone is still under a finance or carrier contract, locked to iCloud or a Google account, or damaged. New reports can also take a few days to appear, so check as close to purchase as you can.
Do not buy it. If you already have, contact the seller and your bank or payment provider, and consider reporting it to police. If the phone is yours and was blocked by mistake or has been recovered, contact the carrier you reported it to.
Only by the carrier it was reported to, at the request of the person who reported it. Anyone offering to "clean" or change an IMEI is offering something illegal in Australia — avoid them.

If the blacklist cannot be reached, we tell you so and never show a phone as clean without an answer. If a check you paid for cannot be completed, contact us and we will refund you in full.
We do not keep a list of IMEIs you check. Your payment record with Stripe holds the IMEI so you can reload your result from the same link.
