Hisense is Australia's best-selling television brand by unit volume — stocked at every JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, and Kmart in the country. Their appeal is straightforward: a 55" or 65" 4K UHD TV at a price point that would have been unthinkable from a Japanese or Korean brand five years ago. That value proposition has made Hisense the default choice for millions of Australian households, and ULED — Hisense's proprietary quantum-dot backlight technology — has pushed their mid-range models into genuine premium territory.
The trade-off is build quality. Hisense uses leaner components than Samsung or LG, particularly in the backlight system, which means failures tend to arrive earlier — often in year 3 to 5 on well-used models. When that happens, manufacturer service is slow and expensive, and most independent repairers don't stock Hisense parts. STS is different: we carry Hisense backlight strips, mainboards, and T-CON boards in workshop, and our board-level repair approach means you're paying for the fault, not a blanket replacement of everything that was working fine.
Hisense TV backlight failure is the single most common job we see from this brand. The backlight array — rows of LED strips behind the LCD panel — is where Hisense cuts cost, and those strips age faster under Australian living-room conditions (extended run time, bright ambient light, high brightness settings). When they fail, the picture goes dark or patchy while sound continues normally. We test every circuit, replace the failed LED sections, and calibrate output to match the original spec. Most standard backlight repairs complete in 2–3 days; ULED backlight work is slightly more involved at 3–4 days.
Hisense mainboard faults present as: TV won't turn on past the standby light, intermittent shutdowns, no HDMI signal on any input, or video with no audio. We repair at the component level — replacing failed capacitors, MOSFETs, or bridge rectifiers rather than swapping the entire board where avoidable. For models where a board-level fix isn't practical, we source a matching replacement mainboard. Either way, the result is the same: your TV working correctly at a fraction of replacement cost.
T-CON board faults on Hisense TVs typically show as horizontal or vertical lines across part of the screen, sections of the display that go black, or colour banding in one region. The T-CON (Timing Controller) board is separate from the main board and is almost always repairable or directly replaceable. This is one of the more satisfying repairs — a $169 T-CON fix on a 65" Hisense that was otherwise working perfectly is an easy call.
VIDAA is Hisense's smart TV operating system, and it's generally reliable — but when it isn't, the failure mode is usually hardware, not software. A Hisense VIDAA TV that freezes, loops at startup, or refuses to load apps after a factory reset almost always has a failing NAND flash chip or a degraded mainboard rather than a corrupted firmware image. We diagnose the root cause, not just the symptom. HDMI port repairs — loose sockets, bent pins, dead HDMI inputs — are straightforward and completed same-day in most cases.
