The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, and at 4.5 years old, the original PS5 units are entering the prime repair window. Unlike USB ports where the connector snaps off cleanly, HDMI connectors on PS5 often break individual pins. We repair HDMI ports at the pin level, not just replace the whole connector, when possible. Thermal paste degradation is inevitable on the PS5's AMD APU after 3–4 years. The PS5 uses liquid metal thermal interface material (not standard paste) in earlier revisions — this liquid metal is effective but can pump out or degrade over time. Replacing the thermal interface material is more complex on PS5 than on most consoles: the APU has a heat spreader, and the correct torque and coverage is critical. We replace with a high-performance compound and achieve consistent APU temperatures well below Sony's thermal throttle threshold. Service from $79.

PS5 disc drive repair requires awareness that Sony tied the disc drive's security chip to the console's main board via a unique pairing ID. This means you cannot simply swap in a donor disc drive — the replacement drive must either be the original donor's drive re-used with board swap, or a new drive that has been paired via Sony's official tool.
