The MacBook Air is Australia's most popular laptop — the M1 Air (2020–2021) that launched Apple Silicon is now 3–4 years old, and the M2 Air (2022) is over two years old. Both generations are in the prime repair window: batteries that were at 100% capacity are now between 70–85%, and screens that survived thousands of lid opens are starting to show hinge stress, coating wear, and impact damage.
At STS Roxburgh Park, we repair MacBook Air models with Apple-certified technicians and genuine-specification parts. MacBook Air repairs are more delicate than most laptops — the fanless design means all heat flows through the chassis, the display assembly is very thin, and the bonded battery requires careful removal technique. These are not jobs for a shop without Apple-specific training.
MacBook Air screens are Liquid Retina IPS panels — high-resolution, colour-calibrated displays that make the difference between a good and a great laptop experience. The M1 Air uses a 13.3-inch 2560×1600 panel (the same physical design as Intel Airs). The M2 Air introduced a new 13.6-inch design with a notch cutout for the 1080p webcam, a 2560×1664 resolution, and a new colour range. The M2/M3 15-inch Air uses a 15.3-inch 2880×1864 display — Apple's first 15-inch Air.
Replacing a MacBook Air screen is a careful process: the display assembly is a single unit (panel, backlight, hinges, and webcam integrated), and the hinge cables that run through the chassis require specific routing during reassembly. We source display assemblies to the correct resolution and colour specification for each generation.
Battery replacement is the most common MacBook Air repair for 2-year+ devices. MacBook Air batteries are bonded with strong adhesive to the aluminium lower case — proper removal requires heat and plastic spudgers, not metal tools. Incorrect removal bends or perforates the lower case. We replace batteries with OEM-specification cells that register correctly in macOS Battery Health (showing genuine capacity, not a generic estimate).
The M2 and M3 MacBook Air models brought back MagSafe — the magnetic charging connector Apple removed in 2018. MagSafe 3 port faults (loose connector, not charging despite working cable) are repairable from $99. M1 Airs use USB-C for charging exclusively.
Keyboard faults on M-series Airs use the improved Magic Keyboard (scissor mechanism) — a significant improvement over the butterfly keyboard on Intel models. Magic Keyboard keycap replacements and key mechanism repairs are more practical than butterfly keyboard work. If a spill has damaged multiple keys, full top-case replacement is typically the correct repair.
