The iPad Air 4th generation was a pivotal redesign — it introduced the flat-edge aluminium frame, moved Touch ID to the top button, switched to USB-C, and added Apple Pencil 2nd generation support. Every iPad Air since has built on this design language. Repairs on these models require experience with the updated design — the Touch ID button integration, the USB-C port board, and the full-laminated Liquid Retina glass.
iPad Air screen replacements across all current generations use Liquid Retina IPS displays — fully laminated to the glass, anti-reflective coated, and True Tone colour calibrated. The 10.9-inch display on the 4th and 5th gen models uses a 2360×1640 resolution. The 2024 M2 models scale up to 2360×1640 (11-inch) and 2732×2048 (13-inch). All use the same full-lamination that makes screen replacement more complex than older iPads with an air gap — we remove the cracked glass and panel as a single assembly.
Touch ID on the iPad Air 4th generation and later is integrated into the top button (power button) — not the home button or the display. This is an important distinction for repair: a screen replacement on these models does not affect Touch ID at all, unlike iPad Pro's Face ID which also lives outside the display. The Touch ID button stays with the chassis when we replace the screen, so biometric function is completely preserved.
The iPad Air uses the same USB-C port design as the iPad Pro — a physical port that can be replaced if damaged. Students who use the iPad Air in a bag with a charging cable connected often develop port wear. USB-C port repair from $79.
Battery replacement on iPad Air models is a service that becomes relevant after 2–3 years of daily use. The iPad Air's large 28.65Wh (10.9-inch) battery is designed for 10 hours of general use. At 80% capacity that drops to 8 hours. We use OEM-specification cells.
