Joy-Con drift is the Nintendo Switch's most notorious design flaw. The analogue stick mechanism uses a small carbon contact strip that wears down with use — and once it starts to drift, it only gets worse. Nintendo has faced multiple class actions over it globally. At STS, we fix it properly: we replace the analogue stick mechanism entirely, not just clean the contacts, because cleaning is a temporary fix that lasts weeks at best.
We repair all three Switch models — the original Switch, the Switch OLED, and the Switch Lite. Each has slightly different disassembly requirements, particularly the Switch Lite (where Joy-Con drift repair requires removing the housing) and the Switch OLED (where the larger display and revised internals need careful handling). Our technicians have repaired hundreds of Switch units across all three models.
Switch screen repairs depend on the model. The original Switch uses a 6.2" LCD touchscreen; the Switch OLED uses a 7" OLED panel (the same technology that makes colours pop but costs more to replace). The Switch Lite has a 5.5" LCD. We use OEM-specification panels in all cases — the correct resolution, touch sensitivity, and colour profile.
Charging port repairs are common on well-used Switch units. The USB-C port is a wear item — with daily docking and undocking, the port can develop intermittent connection issues or stop charging entirely. If the charging port is fine but the Switch still won't charge, the fault is usually the M92T36 charging IC chip on the main board, which we can replace using micro-soldering.
Battery replacements restore the Switch's play time. An original Switch battery has a rated lifespan of around 800 charge cycles — older units may only last 1–2 hours on a charge. A replacement battery brings it back to 4–9 hours depending on the game.
