The Nintendo Switch Lite was released in 2019 as the handheld-only member of the Switch family. It is smaller, lighter, and built around a 5.5-inch LCD screen — but it carries the same stick drift problem as the original Switch. The integrated Joy-Con design means the sticks cannot be removed without opening the entire unit, making stick repair slightly more involved than on the regular Switch.

Despite the "Lite" branding suggesting a simplified device, the Switch Lite uses identical potentiometer-based analogue sticks. The carbon contact strip wears down with use and drift begins — usually starting as a slight pull in one direction before getting progressively worse. At STS, we replace the stick mechanism entirely rather than cleaning the contacts, which is a temporary fix at best.

Screen repairs on the Switch Lite require a 5.5-inch LCD panel — a different part to both the 6.2-inch original Switch screen and the 7-inch OLED panel. We source OEM-specification panels so the replacement matches the original resolution (1280x720), touch response, and brightness. Screen replacement starts from $129 and takes 1–2 hours.

Charging on the Switch Lite uses USB-C, the same connector as the original Switch. The charging port is a common wear item — daily charging eventually takes its toll on the port pins. If the port is fine but the unit still will not charge, the fault is usually the charging IC chip on the main board, which we can replace using micro-soldering.

The Switch Lite has no dock rails and cannot connect to a TV — so dock-related repairs are not applicable. What it does have is a smaller 3570mAh battery (versus 4310mAh on the original Switch). Battery replacements restore play time and are straightforward on this model.

Our workshop is at Shop G69, 250 Somerton Road, Roxburgh Park. Walk-ins welcome. Open 7 days, 9am to 5pm.
