DualShock 4 stick drift is arguably the most common gaming peripheral repair request globally. Sony's PS4 controller — like the Nintendo Joy-Con and the standard Xbox controller — uses potentiometer-based analogue sticks that wear with use. The carbon contact strip inside the potentiometer degrades, causing the stick to register phantom movement when it's centred. In first-person games this manifests as camera drift; in third-person games as unprompted character movement.
The DualShock 4 is also known for its micro-USB charging port wearing out. The port is used daily for charging and the connector is small — after 1–2 years of daily use, the port often develops intermittent charging contact. Given that DualShock 4 controllers retail for $89–109, repair at $39 is economically straightforward.
Stick drift repair replaces the analogue stick module — the small Alps-style potentiometer inside the controller housing. We access the module through disassembly, desolder the worn unit, and install a new one. The repair takes about 30–45 minutes and the controller returns to precise, centred stick input. From $39 per stick, $59 for both.
Micro-USB port repair is the second most common DualShock 4 repair. The micro-USB port is the only charging interface on the DualShock 4 (unlike the DualSense which uses USB-C). The port is soldered to a small circuit board inside the controller. When the port wears (loose cable connection, no charging), we remove and replace the micro-USB port with a new unit. From $39. 30–45 minute repair.
L2/R2 trigger repair covers both the spring mechanism and the trigger assembly. The L2/R2 spring on DualShock 4 controllers breaks from repeated hard trigger presses — common in racing games where triggers are depressed firmly. A broken spring means the trigger doesn't return, stays depressed, or feels loose. Spring replacement from $29. If the trigger mechanism or housing has cracked (from a drop), trigger assembly replacement from $39.
Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle button repair: individual button switches on DualShock 4 can fail (become sticky, require excessive force, or stop registering). Button switch replacement from $29.
Options and Share button repair: these small tactile switches above the touchpad are prone to failure on heavily used controllers. Replacement from $29.
Touchpad replacement: the DualShock 4 touchpad can crack or lose sensitivity. Replacement from $49.
Not connecting to PS4 via Bluetooth: if the controller charges fine but the PS4 doesn't recognise it, the pairing data may have been corrupted. Factory reset the controller (small button in the hole on the back, hold 5 seconds) and re-pair. If that doesn't work, the Bluetooth module inside the controller may have failed — we diagnose and repair Bluetooth faults from $49.
